The Iranian name for this plant is “Negoonsar-Gol” which means “upside down flower”. Two species of this plant could be found in Iran, including C. coum and C. elegans. They grow in the tropical region of the Northern provinces involving wide dispersion at an altitude of 400 to 700 meters.
There is one species of this plant in Iran, growing in Northern slopes, moist ground, around the springs, under the Ironwoods, pasturage at high altitudes (at the height of 1800 m), also it’s found around medlar trees, wild plum and barberry in Northern provinces.
There are four species of this plant in Iran. Three species grow in Northern provinces including P. tomentosa (with milky flowers) at altitude above 1800 m at the beginning of pasturages and P. wittmanniana (with white flowers) at altitude of 1400-1600 m in upstream of forests and P. mlokosewitschii (with yellow flower) at pasturages at altitude of 2200-2800 m. P. mascula with red flowers is found in Kordestan province.

Imperialis (with red flowers) and F. Kotschyana which is exclusive to Iran and grown in Northern pasturages at altitude of 1600-2000 m.
There are 5 herbaceous perennial species of this plant in Iran, from which C. damasonium are grown under trees in Northern provinces.
Its native name in Iran is “Shir-Morgh” which has 13 bulbous herbaceous species. Three species including O. sintenisii, O. pychanthum and O. bungei are exclusive to Iran and grow all around the country. O. sigmoideum grows in Northern pasturages in altitude of 1200 m and above.
This plant has a bulbous perennial species in Iran, growing in Northern pasturages at altitude of 1700 m and above, involving wide dispersion in Almas defile of Khalkhal.
